Why would anyone chain the turtle down?

Hi John, the chain holds the floating platform my husband built for all the turtles to use. The chain holds the platform to a stake to keep it floating to the shore. Unfortunately, the angle of the picture looks like the turtle is chained down, but it isn’t. All turtles are free to come and go as they please here. No turtle has been harmed 🙂

I can’t figure this one out. Is that turtle real, or is it a pond sculpture?

Oh sorry. It’s a real turtle. We have a snapper and a few red sliders living in our small pond. My husband built this floating platform for the turtles (and now a huge bullfrog lol). They all love it! My mom was able to get this picture of the snapping turtle which she has named Sassy. 🙂

Ah! That explains the chain — it’s for the platform, rather than for the turtle!

It really does look like the turtle is chained on there, though!

Then, why the chains?

Nice to see the turtles making good use of the landing.

They love it! There are 3 baby sliders who use it as well, but it’s so hard to sneak up and get a picture!
