COVID and final exams

So, just to catch anyone up who might be interested 😉 May was flying by as it usually does, and I was finishing up community college grades, finishing up paperwork for the semester, keeping students half-way interested…We we’re rolling along, and then I got COVID. I’m glad my mom insisted that I do a home test on May 21. I honestly just thought I had a mild cold. Then it was confirmed at CVS that afternoon that it was for real.

Unfortunately, I missed the last 4 days of school (finals) and graduation, which I signed up to work 😦 And I missed my niece’s high school graduation as well (double sad faces!) It was for sure all the way around very disappointing. The worst days for me were like 3-6 of the virus. It took about 8 full days to get back to myself.

It was hard to not be at school to close the year. I’ve never missed a last day, let alone the last week! Luckily, my classes had their little end of year celebrations the week before; plus, I didn’t have any students taking a final, and my grades were already completed. Yippee!

It finally feels like summer this week. Not that I’ve done a bunch this week, but it’s here, and I made it through this semester and this year. After starting the semester on medical leave and ending with COVID, I’m so glad I made it to the finish line, not gracefully, but still! My students were so great and my colleagues really supported me in more ways than I can count.

I had my phone appointment with my out of town doctor yesterday. We’re changing the game plan since the meds and the plan I started in December aren’t necessarily giving me the progress we want to see. More to come.

We’ve had the hottest May here on record since early 1900s, and now, it’s basically July weather already, and we haven’t had any rain in weeks. Today, it’s 96 and the heat index is 104. Not sure how this weekend will go. Sat/Sun the temp is 101…so heat index? Let’s just hope that ERCOT can keep the electric grid intact. Not a joke BTW.

Take care and peace to you -belle

  1. Wow, I am glad that you git rid of the Covid! And, sorry that it messed up some very important dates for you too. I don’t kow where you live, not asking for privacy reasons, but it’s over 100 in Vegas at the moment!

    • Hi John! I saw you posted it was 100 in your neck of the woods today, I think? We’re in the Houston area. It normally is not this hot in June. Tomorrow, they are calling for 100, but with the humidity, who knows what the heat index will be. These are normally late July, August temps for us. It’s going to be a rough summer. Just hoping for rain and soon! I hope you’re staying cool up there!

  2. I had a fever over Memorial Day Weekend and went back to school last Tuesday before deciding I should probably take a COVID test. Sure enough. Positive. I missed graduation, too, but only a couple of school days. Hopefully this makes our immune systems stronger and hope your summer brings restoration!

  4. I’m sorry you missed those important occasions, but glad that you’re ‘up and taking nourishment’ as my grandmother would say. Every year I say I’m going to get caught up so I don’t have to work in August, but this year August came early. By 1 p.m. or so, I’m ready to end work for the day — I’m lucky beyond words that I have a little interior project that comes with air conditioning!

Stay cool. If we can’t get rain quite yet, maybe we can at least get some clouds!

  7. Thank you for sharing!!.. hope you are feeling much better thought they say it takes some time to recover from covid… I am sure that in the understanding minds of the kids that you are there in spirit because you helped them realize their dreams.. the best part is you are able to watch them continue to grow knowing they are taking a part of you with them… 🙂

Part of the heat wave here also, may see 100 degrees here today on the prairies… 🙂

Take care, have a wonderful day every day and until we meet again..
May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
    wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
    with joy that long endures.
    May all life’s passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!

  8. Belle, enjoying your blog since landing upon it. Sorry to hear you had Covid. Has not gotten to any in our families yet, and hoping it continues to stay away. Here in SE Pennsylvania we’ve had a normal Spring, cool temps, etc. We know the summer heat is coming however. And, I’m sure we’ll also then also be wondering if our electric companies can manage it as well.

    • Hi there, thanks for reading! I’m really glad you all have been able to steer clear of COVID. Luckily, neither my mom nor I have had a y complications. I still can’t smell nor taste much but people have told me that can take some time to recover. My husband also did not contract it! 🙂 Enjoy the cooler temperatures for us, please! It’s been triple digits here almost daily this month (hotter than usual), and we’re rolling into the hotter months of July and August. Send some rain as well if you can! Take care and stay healthy!
