Good morning, all! This will be short as I’m attempting to get myself awake and back to work after a nice summer break. Let me tell you, the dogs are very confused as I’ve been sleeping until 8 am or so these past few months LOL
This week will be 5 days of district professional development. Why 5 days you ask? Not sure except it probably has something to do with the state requirement of a certain number of days for teachers and for students, it is a certain number of minutes we need to be in school. We don’t have our schedule yet for this week, but I’m really hoping we’ll have a lot of time to get with our teams to plan this week. Our college course syllabus is due next Wednesday, and we have a new (to our campus) teacher on our team. One day, we’re at the big district center where I’m almost sure we’ll have a session on active shooter situations. Definitely not looking forward to that one.
We’ll see. Normally, there’s lots of repetitive and boring sessions we have to attend, and our days run 7:30-4 pm since there’s an hour and a half for lunch. We’re such a huge district, and all subjects are convening at separate campuses. This means at lunch, even if half of us go to a restaurant, it’s going to take awhile to get served, etc. I’ll be packing lunch so I can save money and use that downtime to get things done so I don’t have to work this weekend (hopefully). I’m hopeful that since this is the first time we’ve been able to do our district PD in person in 2 years that it will be helpful and supportive. I’m staying optimistic!
Anyway, wish me luck! I hope everyone has a great Monday!
Good luck.

Hi! It went well. We mostly meet with our campus department and then with our teams. We weren’t in the endless sessions…yet. I hope you had a good day too!

Thanks! It’s definitely a transition since I’ve been lazing it up and sleeping in quite a bit this summer! 😊

Best of luck this week, Belle. You’ll get back into your rhythm of the work week soon enough. The doggies might take a little longer to get adjusted. 🙂

Hi! I hope your Monday was a good one. The coordinator and team did a nice job of planning activities that helped us ease into the first day back and the week ahead. Thanks for your kind words!

I hope your week goes well. How terrible that planning your school year has to involve sessions on active shooter situations. And I was just thinking how stressful my job (in the construction industry) was. And how full of hope and excitement young people are. Keep safe and I hope & pray that THAT training never needs to be used. 💞😢

Professional development is great, but I’d usually find myself two hours in on the first day and think, “Is this what the kids feel like each day?”🤣

I saw you’d stopped by my blog, so I knew you had survived! After reading this post a couple of times, I realized that even though I’ve loved my experiences of teaching, I’d be a very bad fit for today’s educational establishment. Professional development is one thing; ensuring that everyone has a good grasp of some bureaucrat’s new rules is something else. I have a friend who’s enduring that just now, and as she said, out of any administrators’ hearing, “My preferred pronouns are ‘teacher’ and ‘student.'” Still — doughnuts can help, even with that! Keep on keeping on!

Hi there! I hope you’re doing well! I am surviving 🙂 I’m still trying to get decent sleep before the dreaded 5 am alarm, but I’m getting there. To be honest, the PD hasn’t been too bad! I was at the Big District Day today (no active shooter training – yippee!) and the sessions provided weren’t super boring (like so many years past). The session choices seemed to revolve around the theme of how teachers can take care of themselves which I thought was interesting. But, I’m sure like many other districts, we’re short on teachers as many have left or retired from the profession in the last few years. Tomorrow is also a day filled with content sessions (like 7 back to back!), so we’ll see how it goes. I’m sure you would do just fine as a teacher now! There always seems to be some BS stuff we have to endure all of the time (as you well know!), it just changes depending on the way the wind is blowing! We haven’t had as much time to plan which has been disappointing but not surprising. Next week is a full week on our campus and I’m sure we’ll get time in then. I hope your friend is having a good week back! Stay cool and take care! Thanks for reading my boring posts! ❤️

Your posts aren’t one bit boring! They’re a peek into a world that’s changed a good bit since I was a student/teacher, but it’s still a world I love. I’m glad your week’s going well. My good news for this week is that I went into Houston for my six-month checkup with my eye doc, and everything is just fine: still 20/20 vision post-cataract/lens implant surgery, and my glaucoma well under control. Don’t have to go back for six months, which pleases me no end, even though today’s traffic wasn’t so bad!

You too! I hope your week back went well. I can’t complain about ours. I wish we’d been given more time to plan as a team, but otherwise, it was fine. I’m glad it’s done. This next week is a campus week and while it’s stacked pretty full M-W, it looks like Thurs/Fri will be our time to get ready. 🙂 Happy Weekend! ❤️
