Rainy, Winter Day

It’s the end of January 2022. I haven’t been back to work this semester. It’s weird. I just cannot manage the fatigue right now. It’s been incessant.

Luckily, I still had some sick leave. Not a lot, so now we’re in pay dock mode. On January 24th, at a follow-up with my doctor, after seeing my labs, added reactivated EBV (mono) to the CFS and Fibromyalgia and extended my medical leave until February 14th. She added an antiviral that will hopefully help suppress the EBV. I’ve been on it a week now. Fingers crossed. I need to get back to work.

Most of the time I’ve been off, I’ve been in bed. Sleeping a lot. Resting. The brain fog has been something else. I don’t really read nor watch a lot of TV. I’m just laying in bed. My teaching partner at work has had to do everything. She’s been awesome!

My husband has also been great. I’ve been chronically I’ll for years now, but it’s been awhile since it’s been really bad like this. He’s my rock. I’m grateful to have his support every day. My mom as well. She lives right next door and has kept an eye on me this past month. I couldn’t do it without these two.

The weather today is just nasty. It’s about 60, but it’s been raining all day. By Thursday, we’re supposed to have a hard freeze. I hope things dry out so we can get the plants covered up.

I’m adding some pictures I took when it was a sunny, beautiful Texas winter day. We’ve had several of those so I guess I can’t complain about a rainy day. Plus, it’s not like I’m up doing things lol I hope you all had a great January. For my friends up north, hang in there. We’re moving towards spring slowly but surely. Take care -b

  1. Thank goodness you’ve got such a great support system in place. Do you typically have more problems at certain times in the year or is that not a factor?

    • Hi Pete! Happy New Year! I am so grateful for all the people supporting me for sure. You know, this time of year seems to be a tough one for me. I think after pushing through fall semester, etc. then heading back is tough. I struggled last spring as well. I’m hoping to get back to work next week. Hopefully, I can manage the rest of the semester. Have a good day!

      • I can’t tell you how many times I made it to winter break and those glorious two weeks only to break down physically right after vacation began. I have a distinct memory of lying in bed for the third Christmas in a row, realizing I couldn’t keep working myself to the bone. That was the moment I decided to retire at the end of the school year.

Wishing you many better days ahead.

      • Ugh. I hear you! I think once we have a break, our bodies can finally (maybe) relax, then Bam! I wish I could say I can retire, but I’m still about 4 years out from 25. And even then, I’ll need to work at something. I’m glad you were able to retire and listen to your heart and body. I still enjoy teaching, but the way it’s going, especially since covid, along with my health issues, is just not something I can see working for myself past my 25 years in. We’re you able to retire fully or do you still do some part-time work? Take care, Pete!

      • My wife and I were both career educators for 31 years and met in the teaching program in college. She was a preschool teacher and director, but I stuck with teaching all that time because I loved being with kids.

On the other hand, we planned well financially and are enjoying retirement. I’ve gotten serious about writing children’s novels, and that’s where my head is at these days. I’ve decided that writing is my new way of teaching. I love it!

  2. I am reading WINTERING by Katherine May. It is beautifully written and it touches on some of your themes. (Penguin UK.) Sounds like you have a great spirit, in a clearly not easy situation. Well done you!

  3. Thank you for sharing!!.. sorry that you are dealing with issues at the moment… perhaps it is your body telling you it needs to rest for a bit and reboot… stress can influence health issues and seem to make them worse at times… with the Covid, weather etc. it has not been a very good year but you are a strong person and with the help you have I am sure you will overcome… “Victory is not always winning the battle, but rising every time you fall” (Napoleon Bonaparte).. 🙂

Hope you are on the mend and until we meet again..
May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
    wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
    with joy that long endures.
    May all life’s passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!
